Explore The Lizard

The Lizard, where you can stand at the most southerly mainland point of the country and view the exceptionally rare geology, plants, flowers and wildlife which are usually found in more of a Mediterranean climate.

Visiting Lizard Point is definitely a must. The views are dramatic and you may be lucky enough to spot many sea birds (including the iconic Cornish Chough), seals and occasionally dolphins!

The Lizard Lighthouse and Heritage Centre provides great value and fun for all the family and is a truly fascinating place

The Lizard boasts many picturesque coves and beaches, Kynance being stunningly beautiful with its turquoise waters, golden sands and unique rock formations. Kynance Cove became very popular in the Victorian period following visits from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and its popularity has only increased over the years with much filming taking place and inspiring incredible art and literary works.

Housel Bay, a short walk from The Lizard village, is very similar to Kynance but generally only used by a handful of locals. It is a little more of a clamber to get down to than Kynance Cove but definitely worth the effort.

Whilst on the subject of beaches, there is Gunwalloe (Church Cove), Kennack Sands and Coverack beaches that are all easily accessible with parking close by.

The peninsula is littered with typically beautiful Cornish villages such as Cadgwith with its working fishing cove and the wonderful Helford untouched by time. The coastal paths and walks are really something else so hikers really are spoilt for choice.

If surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, diving and the like are more up your street then The Lizard has it covered. For the more adventurous there is coasteering on offer for a truly special experience. Of course, if you like to be on the water but prefer to remain dry there are plenty of boat trips on offer. If you book any of our cottages you'll receive a 10% discount on a boat trip with Lizard Sailing Trips , a skippered yacht for couples or individuals sailing from the Helford River, just mention that you've booked your holiday with us.

For great days out you can't beat the Cornish Seal Sanctuary nestled along the Helford river and offering sanctuary to seals, sea lions and penguins. It's a special place to visit and a special mission to support.

The thrill-seeking family may be drawn to the fabulous Flambards Theme Park, not only do they offer some amazing rides and the most southerly roller coaster but an amazing victorian village and displays. With the ‘7-day free return,’ it’s really good value.

Who doesn’t like Roskilly's Ice Cream? Absolutely no one of course! You can actually visit Roskilly’s farm whilst you’re here and take a walk around all the animals, peruse the gift shop and gallery and the kids will love playing on the tractor. Then you can visit the cafe and treat yourself to a wonderfully Cornish ice cream.

There are gardens galore around here, National Trust members will certainly feel the benefit of their membership. From Glendurgan Gardens to Godolphin House they are all worthy attractions.

Not a National Trust property and not quite as well known as many of the others but there are also Bonython Estate Gardens on The Lizard. This amazing 13-acre estate centres on an 18the century manor house and is well worth a visit.

This peninsula is literally littered with ancient history which we could write for hours and hours about but just to point you in a starting direction there is Kynance Gate which is the remains of a prehistoric settlement first occupied in the bronze age and clustered around a rocky serpenti ne outcrop. Then there’s the Goonhilly Downs with its barrows and dry tree menhir and the Lizard windmill, yes we have our own ancient windmill built around 400 years ago! The windmill retains its secrets from the lawless days of this remote part of the country when it housed the infamous ‘Windmill Gang’, treacherous footpads (highwaymen without horses!).

So much to do and see, we could go on and on and on - we haven’t even touched on the amazing places to eat some awesome locally caught seafood! If you need any tips for things to do, places to visit or great restaurants and pubs just get in touch as we’re more than happy to help.

Coverack

Little has changed in Coverack over the past hundred years. It truly is a hidden gem on Cornwall’s south coast. Idyllic and perfect for all the family.

A short stroll down the hill brings you to the historic, picturesque harbour.

Grab a pint from the best-positioned pub in the world, a bag of chips from the converted lifeboat shed or one of Roskilly’s famous ice creams, sit on the sheltered harbour wall and watch the fishermen bring in their catch and the kids jump in the sea. If you are lucky you’ll be able to buy a crab or some fish fresh off the boat. You can organise a fishing trip with one of the local boats here too.

There is a well-stocked village shop for all your essentials. They serve great coffee and pastries and you can pre-order your favourite newspaper here too.

The wide sandy Mill Beach is great for building sandcastles, playing in rock pools and of course swimming in the bracing water!

Coverack is also home to the Coverack Windsurfing Centre which offers RYA training for beginners to advanced sailors. They hire kayaks and stand-up paddleboards too.

Walk the National Trust coastal path to the secluded Meres beach in 15 minutes or further afield to Blackhead, Cadgwith and beyond.

Helford, Kynance Cove, Mullion and Falmouth are just a few places of outstanding beauty within easy driving distance.
