Explore Porthleven
Porthleven is the most southerly port in Great Britain. Its iconic Bickford-Smith Institute looks out over the pier and harbour entrance, instantly recognisable as its image is so frequently used in news reports whilst reporting on the latest storm to dramatically break on the harbour walls and sea defences, it’s quite a spectacular sight in any weather.

The harbour is one of very few privately owned harbours in Cornwall and has benefitted from investment and diverse development whilst retaining its rich history and heritage. The combination has created a bustling working harbour filled with independent shops, markets and many renowned eateries. It really is a ‘foodies paradise’ and hosts the famous Porthleven Food Festival.

The coastal paths and walks are really something else so hikers really are spoilt for choice. A walk along the coastal path to Loe Bar and Loe Pool is a must, the Loe beach separates the sea from Loe pool which is the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall. This is not a place for entering the water though, it is a notoriously treacherous stretch so just enjoy the awe-inspiring views. The Porthleven beach is dog friendly except between 1st July and 31st August (10 am - 6 pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place. This ban operates from the Harbour Wall to the Blue Buoy steps.

If surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, diving and the like are more up your street then there’s plenty on offer for you. If you like to be on the water but prefer to remain dry there are plenty of boat trips to experience.

For great days out you can't beat the Cornish Seal Sanctuary nestled along the Helford river and offering sanctuary to seals, sea lions and penguins. It's a special place to visit and a special mission to support.

The thrill-seeking family may be drawn to the fabulous Flambards Theme Park, not only do they offer some amazing rides and the most southerly roller coaster but an amazing Victorian village and displays. With the ‘7-day free return,’ it’s really good value.

Who doesn’t like Roskilly's Ice Cream? Absolutely no one of course! You can actually visit Roskilly’s farm whilst you’re here and take a walk around all the animals, peruse the gift shop and gallery and the kids will love playing on the tractor. Then you can visit the cafe and treat yourself to a wonderfully Cornish ice cream.

There are gardens galore around here, National Trust members will certainly feel the benefit of their membership. From Glendurgan Gardens to Godolphin House they are all worthy attractions.

This peninsula is literally littered with ancient history which we could write for hours and hours about but as a starting point why not take yourselves on the town trail and immerse yourself in Porthleven's rich history.

So much to do and see, we could go on and on and on - we haven’t even touched on the amazing places to eat some awesome locally caught seafood! If you need any tips for things to do, places to visit or great restaurants and pubs just get in touch as we’re more than happy to help.
